BRAKES SERVICES

You can choose to have a brake assessment service carried out to check the vital components (drums, pads, discs and callipers) for added safety, and if a replacement part is required, you can also benefit from the brakes services available.

Front brake pad replacement service:

An all-inclusive price (parts and labour) with no surprises for a high-performance braking system.

  • A set of 4 pads for the front brakes
  • Labour for installation
  • Visual checks by PEUGEOT experts
  • Report of work carried out
PEUGEOT IS HERE TO HELP
  • After changing the discs, run them in by braking sharply several times.
  • After having your car washed at a car wash, the front discs and pads might be damp. This could lead to a reduction in performance. Apply the brakes gently from time to time so the heat generated dries the pads.
  • Only use PEUGEOT approved products to clean alloy wheels in order to avoid damaging the callipers with unsuitable solvents.
  • Your brakes may whistle or squeak when you brake gently, but these noises will not affect their effectiveness.
  • Don't forget that your brakes will only perform properly if your suspension and tyres are also in a good condition.

If you see one or more signs of wear, visit your PEUGEOT specialist as quickly as possible.

BRAKES IN THE MOT

The brakes are subjected to a particularly strict 21-point safety test

during an MOT. So as to avoid the inconvenience of a re-test, it's best to have your brake system checked by your PEUGEOT expert.

WHICH PARTS OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM ARE SUBJECT TO WEAR?
BRAKE PADS
  • Friction caused by braking leads to extreme heat being generated.
  • The material on the brake pads is softer than that used for the discs so it will wear more quickly.

Worn pads can damage the brake disc.

Maintenance recommendations:

Have the condition of your pads checked (approx. every 10,000 km).

Have them replaced when the thickness reaches 2 mm.

BRAKE DISCS

When braking, a lot is asked of the brake discs. Any wear can cause vibrations. Optimum braking efficiency depends on them being in good condition.

Maintenance recommendations:

Have them looked at every time the brake pads are replaced in order to check that their thickness is in line with manufacturer guidelines.

BRAKE DRUMS

While they are used less than the pads, they are still subjected to the same forces.

Maintenance recommendations:

Have the brake drums checked regularly (approx. every 20,000 km). Parts should be replaced when the thickness of the brake shoes is less than 1.5 mm.

BRAKE FLUID
  • Not only can old fluid lead to a loss of braking performance, a leak in the hydraulic system can lead to the brakes failing. A light on the dashboard will show the warning level.
  • In the event of an abnormally large drop in brake fluid, get advice from your PEUGEOT expert as quickly as possible.

Maintenance recommendations:

Have your brake fluid changed at least once every two years, or every 40,000 or 60,000 km depending on the date of registration of your vehicle. It's essential.

SIGNS OF WEAR IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM

THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HEAVY
This could be down to a failure in the brake assist system, the hoses or electrics of the hydraulic system, the wheel cylinders or the callipers
THE BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT
The pedal falls away into the footwell and you have to pump it to be able to brake. Please be aware that this is a sign of a serious problem with the hydraulic system.
THE CAR VEERS TO THE SIDE WHEN BRAKING
A wheel cylinder or a calliper could be jammed, or the tyre may simply not be inflated enough. Worn shock absorbers can also cause the same behaviour.
THE CAR VIBRATES WHEN BRAKING
This is probably to do with faulty brake discs, a part that's come loose or excessive play in the front or rear suspension.
THE CAR JOLTS WHEN BRAKING
If the brakes lock with the slightest pressure, it could be a sign of a problem with the discs, the drums or the brake shoes.
